Re: No one considers Canada’s immigration record a big deal, and that’s remarkable (John Ibbotson, 23 Oct.)
Columnist Ibbotson points out the obvious short-term economic benefits of immigration, but he failed to mention the big drawback: climate change. We have to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions, not merely per capita, yet larger the population, the harder to do this.
As well, immigration generally means people coming from lower emission countries to one of the highest in the world (us).
We should look at the consequences for climate change of all economic policies.
