Re: Inauguration of Joe Biden and cancellation of Keystone XL pipeline

JustEarth joins with other Canadians in welcoming the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th present of the United States. You as MPs will be keen to see the opening up of a new relationship with him as president and the country as a whole.

We note that Mr Biden shares our concerns about climate change, is committed to bringing the U.S. back into the Paris Accord and will be on ally with us on climate issues.

We are pleased that he has appointed as his Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change, John Kerry, Secretary of State in the Obama government, who stopped Keystone XL Pipeline. What credibility would Canada have if it brought forward a request for support for Keystone as an early request. Mr Biden and Mr Kerry, as Canadian climate experts and advocates, understand that expansion of the tar sands and increased GHG emissions, over decades.

Our record on GHG emissions is one of increases, as we are some 20T over 1990 levels. We must on to a just transition for oil sector workers and serious reductions in our emissions.

Yours sincerely
