Letter to the Leader of the NDP

Dear Mr Layton
We thank you for insisting on a strong economic stimulus plan in the current budget. Your efforts resulted in a much improved budget. But we regret that the opportunity was lost to use the stimulus package to promote green energy and conservation.
Canada does not have a comprehensive climate action strategy and we urge you to press for one. We are pleased that you have opposed tar sands expansion, and urge you to call for a removal of tar sands subsidies in future budgets.
We would be interested to know what you think of an economy-wide cap and trade system which would affect vehicle and home fuels as well, as proposed by President Obama. We favour a carbon tax, but see this as a comparable measure.
Yours sincerely
