Dear Prime Minister
While we support measures to stimulate the economy, we regret that the opportunity was not taken to promote green energy and energy conservation. The home renovation tax credits could have provided an opportunity to promote energy efficiency.
More importantly we remind you of the urgent need for a comprehensive climate action strategy, specifically to make the substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions climate experts tell us are necessary. These are at the level of 85 percent below 1990 levels by 2050, and sooner is better than later. We want to see real targets (not intensity based) with dates.
The tar sands exploitation, as you must know, is the major reason Canada is increasing our emissions, when we should be reducing them. Our standing in the world community has suffered as a result. We like to think of ourselves as internationalists and on this issue we have failed miserably.
Yours sincerely
